So I don't see how that statement ends the thread.

I can see the value of a cube being rare and being a collectable. However a cube is hardly rare and a collectable now days.

There's no use trying to reason with people who discriminate against 'dirty' cubes, as there is nothing rational about using cubes as a currency in the first place.

At some point people noticed how easy it was to farm mana compared to farming good gear, and how easily mana flowed in when they put some junk for sale in their afkshops, and on that basis they decided mana had lost all value. So they needed some sort of a new currency. They intuitively wanted something that would not lose value as quickly as mana did, so one-per-account items were an obvious choice. It could have been chickens, it could have been TF2 pets, it could have been portal guns, the majority settled on cubes.

Good gear is so hard to get that pretty much every above-average piece counts as a 'one of a kind' item. Until that changes, the market will continue to be irrational.

Just a quick question about cubes, is there a colour that is more valued than any other? or is that just dependant on the buyer/collector.

I will give that a fully upped cube should be worth less then a unupgraded. but I do not understand why some/most people need clean cubes. The name makes sense but the upgrades don't.

if some one has ocd over a item and then says a cub is "rare" when you get them for free and EVERY one gets one and they can say say a item is worth less, when they have them facts in there head, this effect the hole trading system because some one, one day said, "hmmm i don,t like that...DE VALUE this newb upgraded the damage on a cube...o wait... what else would i have upgraded..? does any one actually care other than me little ocd self?

well some idiots think white cubes are not "as good" as other cubes

a cube is a cube. period

its seen as a trading item, for those few who collect them you cant argue that there seen as more of a trading stick, so why should the minority of people get there items de-valued because of the few collects with ocd

I thought it was actually white that cubes were valued the most due to that being their color in portal.

But the majority of people are not cube collectors. They're holding onto them for accumulating wealth, not for any particular love of cubes. It would be like charging someone more or not accepting their money since the dollar bills they're using have some creases or wrinkles.

Yeah, there are some people out there who collect currency and obviously they want it to be mint. But the majority of people just use it as wealth and condition doesn't make a difference.

Yeah yeah, what happened probably was that someone with end game gear, perhaps a complete set or whatever, also probably a hacker, got tired of collecting upped cubes and expressed his/her desire for cubes, "clean" cubes. It snowballed into people now desiring mint cubes more than used cubes.

I've enjoyed lot trading on this forum, and everyone can play the game in the way they want, if they want to turn DD into a trading/mercantile game, more power to them, problem is, lately less and less people want really rare or hard to get items, they are leaning to ---->accumulate<----- and that, again, is ruining the game for everyone.

All that is just an extension of the glaring problems the game's economy has, there have been some suggestions, really good suggestions, on the forums about how Trendy can improve the economy, but you saw how I was with King's, now imagine if Trendy implements something that makes cubes less desirable, you can imagine the waves of people complaining to Trendy because they didn't consider "merchants".
