Angry Low FPS on a powerful laptop

Hi, I got a problem with Dungeon Defenders. When I started playing, everything ran OK, but after some of the updates, my FPS doesn't raise from 17. My specs:
Intel Core i7-2630QM (4x 2.0GHz and Turbo up to 2.9GHz)
    8GB DDR3 RAM
    nVidia GeForce GT540M (2GB dedicated GDDR5)
    Win 7 Home Premium 64bit
It seems like it is not a problem with the graphics quality, because even when I set the quality to LOW, it stays on 17 FPS. When in combat, I sometimes jump right to a enemy horde, and that decreases the FPS to 1-5. I'm really scared of this , because I'm doing a Let's Play Series of this game. Do you have any ideas? Thanks !

PS: I'm sure the game is not using the integrated Intel GFX chip.
EDIT: works again, probably by verifying Steam cache

Im guessing that it could be your internet connection are you using a wireless connection? wireless gaming can have issues sometimes. Since you mentioned you are using a laptop I would guess this could be part of your problem

since you say you're recording for a video series... is it only slow like this when you're recording? or is it always like this? You could have background applications that are interfering as well. You can try toggling "use multi-threaded renderer" (turn it on if it's off or turn it off if it's on) and see if that has any effect.

Yes, I'm using wireless connection, but here's my speedtest result: , so I don't think it's that problem. But I will try to use RJ-45 to hook up my router and edit this post with results.
    Thanks for your answer!

Thanks for your answer. No, it is also slow (around 17 FPS again) even when not recording. I tried to use Game Booster from IOBit, it sped up the game to 18-20 FPS but still not enough. I'll toggle that thing and respond.

EDIT: Yes, using that renderer thing I finally got the game a little faster (but only about +5 FPS). Thanks! But still, I think it could run much, much faster.
