Most people will say "Put on DPS nothing else matters."
I say, if your using a Huntress, go straight hero damage.
For apprentice: Some resist (up to ~60 should do) and then hero damage
For any of the melee characters: Resistance, then damage.
For your second question: Get about 100 into hero boost, then the rest into damage and HP. The 100 in hero boost nearly doubles your damage.
also for the resistance armor... (for my squire) i just spend on all 4 or just the generic resistance?
It depends what you want to use it for.
If you want to be a gigantic, unstoppable tank, put it into Generic and Fire resistance. The pump the rest into hero damage.
If you just want to be a nice, fairly durable melee guy, put into generic resistance and then into dps.
To be honest with you, generic is the best, and then whatever bonus you get for the rest of them is more then plenty. If you have upwards of 5k hp on your dps squire, your more then set.
for me doesn't matter which character its always full res then rest xtra upgrades into hero damage becuz i mean with even a 100^ wep its like overkill having 600 hero damage you'll already do plenty of damage so i say just go res then hero damage on it

For the monk make sure you get your hero boost to 200 and your HA to 200.
Hero boost at 201 = Directly doubles damage.
Blood Rage at 201 = Directly triples damage. (?)
It's alllll preference, my friend. But I recommend at least 200 Hero Damage and Ability #2 for EVERY character. (except apprentice)
