Thread: Apprentice pity?

The App was the first toon I made, and still gets the second highest DPS of all my characters. He's kinda left in the dust with all other characters getting super weapons, he's stuck with the weak upgrade weaps, His highest is what..? 120 per up? Others have around 500 per up. I still like him, and use him occasionally, I don't use EV for anything, besides her boosts. Still workin on my Jester, but I have some nice stuff ready for her to use.

Jester also seems to have higher staff damage scaling, similar casting speed to an overcharged apprentice, runs a lot faster, and get two weapons.

Apprentice/adept builder, on the other hand, is very useful, and like others, I usually use them in conjunction with harpoons. The splash damage is good at holding aggro from multiple ogres and killing around corners. It's also elevated higher than harpoons (better at shooting diagonally down) and takes up less space. Since the buff several patches ago, its single target per-du damage is comparable to harpoons. I still tend to use harpoons more, but sometimes a little splash works wonders.

I remember when Mistmyre came out, back then the Apprentice towers were the only towers used.

That was definitely not the case on xbox lol. Those turrets sucked hard because of how slow they were.

everyone has their classes that they have preferences for, but honestly, with the current state of the game, every building class is performing pretty equally. i think apprentices are actually ahead of the curve now because they only have 1 tower unit that is considered bad now. personally though im a fan of EV/summoner/initiate builds.

as far as DPS classes go, if you can stay alive, apprentices actually fair pretty well in terms of damage output. their only problem is they generally have to be right in the middle of things, so their survivability is pretty low.

I use apprentice just as much as I use my squire towers. Not sure why people believe they're not good, or just not used.

apps can do pretty solid DPS, the catch is simply you have to be shooting at point blank with the character with one of the lowest HP totals in the game.

I prefer using harpoons over fireballs because the ballistas travel much faster than the fireballs, thus getting sharking as they're prepairing their charge / djinns as they start desummoning. Also, Apprentice tower projectiles lag my game so bad

can you do the kraken? assuming you don't have crazy gear, but normal stuff (eg 2.2k-ish stats and 2.5k for dmg), on hardcore? i keep getting one shotted or spikes keep tracking me, even with a healing and strength drain, it doesn't work out =/

Ultimate crested has 144, still pretty low though

i actually tested that, 30DU harpoons and 30 DU fireballs, the fireballs have a little less, but do the splash, BUT they don't affect all mobs, where harps do and they pierce , i don't know

i've done builds with fireballs, but they always had problems, where harps seemed to work fine with the same build and a reflect or 5 less

^this!!! if you want to do your nice DPS, you need to go up close so all your projectiles hit target, unless you have an oculus, but that dmg is bad

^this too!!! those projectiles are too slow, especially for sharkens, but copters and gold wyverns/fishies too

imo apprentice still needs a buff, gave up on him for now and went with a jester for dps, despite me loving apprentice =/

App towers are still pretty useful, fireballs in particular (MM and DS I see no real point to anymore). Lightning towers are OK in some situations.

But fireball for their 5 DU is nice actually.
