Squire > Apprentice? (for Nightmare)

Lately I've found that nearly everytime I build in Nightmare, I end up using the squire's crossbows as apposed to any of the apprentice towers. They do more damage and pierce. I have more atk damage on my Apprentice yet if I use fireball towers they don't do as much damage and aren't as effective. So what exactly is the Apprentice really used for in Nightmare other then DPS? Thanks in advance for any advice :O

Apprentice are basically the god of pure strategy for what its worth. But mainly fireballs are preferred for areas where you need to keep a choke (from say a gas trap) from compounding too heavily. While its true the harpoons will pierce the target, the splash from a fireball can (in some cases) apply more damage over all than a harpoon. There are also a few special cases where lightning towers can be valuable.

There is also one more particular use that makes App > Squire: Deadly Striker Towers. They prioritize airborn targets when presented with a mix of land and airborn mobs. This is golden for fish and wyvern. However, it seems that Copter are able to get past them (flares?).

I've seen to many squires who just completely outclass App even with less tower Damage just cause their towers deal more damage and are not effected by resistances on top of the pierce. like my App had 2340 tower damage and my fireball tower did less dps than a squire who had 1639 tower damage. What kind of **** is that? App is so under-rated and unused cause they are outclassed by squire in nightmare mode.

Deadly Strikers also ignore all terrain to hit a target which is gold in some location. However, harpoon seems to win in most defense scenarios over fireball simply because fire resistance.

Ya, unless you use the mage barriers or a monk. No point in using a Apprentice, which is just retarded since that is what the Apprentice is all about " Towers ". They need to buff the Apprentice or do something to make them viable again.
