question about upgrading auras

why does everybody say "it makes them worse?" i have yet to see evidence of this. last giraffe run i did i decided i would upgrade half of my auras to 3 stars and leave the other have untouched. it didn't seem to have any ill effect on my upgraded auras....

can anybody offer some insight?

I'd like to know as well. I've been told not to upgrade the auras. I only upgrade them if I'm the host. If I ever jump into someone's game, I only upgrade the other towers.

i understand that vut i wouldn't say that makes them worse. they get a slight health boost wtih the upgrade and if you have them placed correctly with at least a 74 monk they shouldn't go down as it is. the whole rationale of "makes them worse" seems idiotic to me. :-P

Indeed, in pure strat if you choose not to upgrade i cant see the last wave being copleted! Some people just dont spec things right me thinks!

In pure strategy, starting each wave with un-upgraded auras allows you to "repair" them 5 times mid wave.

I tend to just repair up to about wave 7 then start to sell after that for fresh ups!

mine have enough health that they don't go down regardless of upgrade level but i can definitely see the strat in being able to "repair" them via upgrade. i have had to do that for the final ogre w/ 4 controllers on insane once he started going at my slicer

It certainly helps in the last round... the upgrade can reset the health and booom all fresh and roll on the giraffes!

let me clear your confusion... the idea is not that upgrading the auras "makes them worse". the strategy involved here is that by not upgrading your auras you give yourself another tactical advantage by having the option of upgrading them several times DURING THE WAVE so that you can restore the aura health back to full. in 'pure strat' you cannot repair your defenses during the combat phase but you can still upgrade defenses. ergo, this is the only way of "repairing" your auras in the middle of a combat phase. if you are playing legit not upgrading your auras until they need full health restored will be the difference between winning and losing on 'pure strat'.
