Thread: Does the Apprentice need a buff to keep up?

    I find that both the magic missile and fireball towers to be useful. There are even instances where a magic missile outperforms a harpoon (on specific maps, they take out wyverns much more effectively and for half the DU). And fireball towers are great for taking out enemies that the harpoons just can't reach (i.e at the top of the stairs or stuck around the corner due to a gas trap clog). But I still think the apprentice could use a small buff, maybe not damage wise but at least DU wise. And, I would like to see some major changes to the deadly strike towers, though I don't really have any good ideas on how to to do it.

    Coming from a pro App person, see avatar that I have had for ages, I do think a lot of things could be changed slightly to make them more competitive.

    A larger splash radius for the Fireball Tower (at least double), add infinite piercing to Deadly Striker, buff the damage of the Magic Missile Tower or make the projectile pierce once, or bounce to the nearest target.

    I use squire now, simply because the way I play. I would love to be able to switch between either and not feel penalized.

    Back in the mobile days, squires were never used really. Apps had all the glory.

    I gotta agree with a lot that has been said here. For the most part the only thing really viable with App is Fireball. MM is a waste of DU when compared to the Harpoon. The walls don't really serve a purpose with the introduction of EV, as well as two other towers now stripping elements. Lightning towers are ok but for their DU cost it's very hard to fit them into a build when there are better towers to choose, and DST is just garbage.

    I used to main App. I remember when it was possible to do NM with nothing but App towers (not saying the game should be like this). Here's hoping App gets a little love in the future.

    Personally, I'd like to suggest replacing the DTS with the afformentioned acid tower, I think it would probly mesh better than infinite piercing on the most powerful (per hit) tower in the game
    Opinions?

    DST RoF compared to harp RoF... harp DU compared to DST DU... wouldnt be OP IMO...

    Trendy are not going to replace a part of the game that has been around since day one. They said they would never add more towers to the current character, so why would they scrap one. They need to just modify what they have. Infinite pierce seems fair considering their fire rate. I still think harpoons would probably beat them on raw dps.

    I don't think the changes would make them OP, it just comes down to balance, only Trendy can balance those numbers.

    One way to fix the difference between harpoons and fireball towers would be to either: Increase the radius of which the fireball explodes, making it do more area damage; or, instead of making it explode in a small circle, make it create a flame-wave effect. This flame-wave effect could "pierce" several game-lengths behind the first target. (let us say the repair circle is the unit of measure here, it could pierce a repair circle distance.)


    example where X's represent enemies, the arrows are the tower shot, and underscores are nothing, It wouldnt let me use spaces and keep my arrows in the same spot:

    harpoon gun ---> X ---> X ---> X ----> X----> -----X -----> X -----> X -----> X------>X------->

    _____________ -----> X ----> X
    Fireball ----> X-----> X ----> X
    _____________-----> X ----> X

    The fireball could not pierce as far, but could be useful in this function.

    Bubbles, that sounds like a good idea, but it would look too much like the Huntress' Inferno Trap.

    It should be turned into... HMM ---> Homing Magic Missile
    Not too op considering the fact they have low dps.
