Dungeon Defenders II game Status:
I just bought this 2 hours ago. My question now is
What's the different between Ranked and Open?
I was going to try playing with other people to see I can't get help, but I didn't want to seem greedy so i just played local.
you get used to the keyboard/mouse, but you can use a 360 controller. The leveling isnt different at all and you don't need a headset. You can press tab to talk, but most computers have built in mics now (not sure how old yours is, or if tis a laptop or what). About 3 months ago i went from PS3 to PC for this game, theres a lot more to do so id try it.
Open and Local use the same characters. You can use game modifications created with the DDDK (Trendy-released editor) in Open, so it's kind of a free-wheeling experience. (You can make or download a map that gets you to the level cap instantly, for example.)
Ranked is a more controlled experience. In Ranked, you can't use the custom maps/mods, so (in theory) everyone is playing by the same rules. Ranked uses a separate group of characters, stored on Trendy's servers, to help prevent hackers from cheating.
You can only earn Steam achievements on Ranked, if you care about those.
I recommend playing on Ranked even if you want to play solo. (You can host a Private game on Ranked.) The reason is that you can copy your characters from Ranked to Open/Local, but not the other way around. So Ranked gives you the most flexibility.
As for seeming greedy - I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you host a Public game, you basically set the rules (i.e., anyone who joins is, in theory, supposed to defer to you on any questions of propriety). You can also look for other public games playing on lower levels. Alternatively, you can look for games being played on Insane Glitterhelm, which are usually open to anyone to leech XP. (It's even better if the Game's name says something like: Quick Levels.)
If in doubt, ask on text chat![]()
Also I bought the bundle pack for all the Lost Shard, and when I started up the game it said I'd unlock them. Once in the tavern however I do not see the camping for them (even in private hosting) Did I do something wrong? I double check on Stream Library to see if I had them and it said I do.
In the Tavern's mission select screen, the Shards missions are separate. Look for a large, purple "Quest for the Lost Eternia Shards" button in the top left corner.
My Opinions:
1. Yes, you can play with a controller (Split screen if you have two)
2. Levelling goes from 1-73 easily, then it starts getting grindy.
3. I'm not sure about, could work with an XBOX one but I wouldn't try.
