DLC(Eternia maps etc) still need everyone to buy to play with friends?

I have largely ignored the game for the past little over 4 months after the start of superloot and megalomania in loot. My question is if I were to come back(I saw the ev) would I have to get friends to buy the dlc to play? If so I might as well say so long again since it would be pointless to try and get people to come back just to pay trendy and grind.

I'm not questioning paying for the chars, but more so if they could play with me on the stuff they would actually want to play(new maps).

Well then not even worth attempting to play since only 2 people I know still play and they don't have said dlc and everyone else doesn't have it.

If you own the DLC and host the game, your friends should be able to join you... I think lol!

If you own Eternia shards, you can't play an Eternia shards map with someone who doesn't own the Eternia Shards DLC.

However, you can play any other map with them with any of the characters.

Are you actually upset you can't buy new maps and play them with people who haven't gotten it?

That's like saying, "Why can't I play multiplayer PS3 games over the internet with someone who owns a PS2?!"

Answer: They haven't bought it yet!

Your analogy is not the same at all. PS2 and PS3 are completely different products. Here, both people already own the game but one person has the DLC. Quite a few games out there do allow friends to play together as long as one of them has the DLC e.g. Magicka.

I don't have a problem myself as my friend and I both have the DLC, but I can see how it irritates some others who don't have harcore gaming friends, especially as lack of NM mode means very limited progression.

Without the gear grind this game wouldn't be fun, the only reason people keep playing is because there is better gear to obtain. Different forms of grind is what keeps the hamster running on the wheel for almost all mmorpgs.

Thank you, in your first sentence, saying exactly what my point was.

Lost Shards is A DIFFERENT PRODUCT than the standard, base game of Dungeon Defenders. It is sold as an expansion pack.

Why anyone would think they should be able to buy ONE expansion pack, or ONE new version of ANYTHING and play it with friends who don't own it is ludicrous. This isn't the 90's anymore.

As far as I know only six things are unplayable without everyone having the DLC: Mistymire, Moraggo, Portal Defense, War of the Djinns, Lifestream Monsterfest, and Oasis Monsterfest.
