periodically intermittent no connection to steam network is pissing me off

i guess every so many days steam goes down or is restarted.

before you leave doing dd cant you do something about it

can't you just check when game is started and then if the connection is lost batch requests and send them next time steam is up

or maybe dont reply on them so much on them being constantly up

and remove any use of their network that is no necessary

i mean its a bummer to be playing a game things going well and disconnect

since this year stated its been a constant problem and things are not getting better with steam

the thing they are not down even one minute, so why does dd kick us all out, cant you extend timeout, increase number of retries, why not put up a popup we have lost connection to steam, retry for 60 seconds or disconnect. if they press retry to try it for 60 seconds and if not back up put the popup again until the person hits disconnect or the network is up

anyways its really bothering me, i was in such a good game :(

Seconded, at least pause the state of the game, I can't tell you how many times I have built and got all ready for a match for it to disconnect me as soon as I hit start, it is the most annoying thing to waste 30 or so minutes building for absolutely nothing.

I've also been having disconnection problems lately; hoping it will be looked into.

I've been having the same issue.
Playing with 5 friends, and about once an hour someone gets booted out of the game and told that their network connection is lost.

Here's the biggest headache, 2 of us are sitting in the same room talking to the other two via our private voice chat server.

Most of the time, only one of us gets dc'd at any given time (unless it's the host who drops). And we never even see any lag to the voice chat server.

I've been monitoring the connection between each of us and between the steam servers via ping.

No latency, no lag, no lost packets, not even a little bit of unnecessary jitter.

I can say 100% that the problem is not on my end.

This just happened to me and i opened to forums with the sole purpose of making a thread but seeing as there is already one i do not need to bother. This happens way too often and needs to be addressed asap!. I was just on wave 21 of the kings game, and as im repairing from overlord mode i see a nice mythical bracer accessory on the ground and a yellow dot on the map. the wave was over and i was soooo excited to get my loot, Mythical accessories are rediculously rare!. I walked up to the bracers and boom!. your connection has been lost. I pressed alt tab and my connection was 100% perfect. I threw my mouse across the room breaking the battery cover. Whos smart idea was it to make the connection steam dependent and not client based? It takes HOURS to get to high waves in survival to better my gear and find nice loot only to have my time spent wasted. PLEASE FIX THIS TRENDY! this happens far too often and its making me want to start playing another game until the issue is fixed. Survival is unplayable at the moment!

Made an account just for the occasion.
I have the same problems as you guys : connection to Steam just randomly dies on me, which is especially infuriating after having spent 3 or 4 hours on a Survival map. Could you please look into this, Trendy ?
That'd be swell, thanks.

Made an account here just for the occasion as well.

Been experiencing these "steam disconnections" for a short while now.

Seems awfully similar to the issue described in THIS (http://forums.trendyent.com/showthread.php?49003-Lost-Network-Connections&) thread. That one was supposed to be fixed though...

I also opened a ticket at Steam Support, last week, but they haven't bothered to reply yet.

I hope this is looked into cause I can't even play Dungeon Defenders properly lately. Not for anything end-game anyway.

sure its a pain to go back in code and make change, but i hope they do before they leave this game...

i think the problem is steam

but trendy can change their code to either not require as much connecction to steam

batch for latter update of steam (when they are finally up)

have longer timeout, have more retries (let us change the values in some settings file)

also give us a popup to retry or exit, if retry they should close bad connection and try getting a new one, and keep doing until it works or until we say exit

steam is only going to get worse as they ad more users and as they expand their network to be everything to everyone, like sell more than games.

this is bad because it effects some amazing survival matches that can take some time to finish and sadly then you have to start all over again, ok you can start at a specific wave, but then its hard to build for and get same teammates, ect.

better to give us more time before the game kicks us. and they should try cycling the connection, get a new one, the old one is bad and not always recoverable state. maybe use some cookie to keep track of session and then regardless of connection it is the session can continue.

also batch is not bad idea, if fails, batch them on file system and send them when steam finally becomes available

best to not have need to keep talking to steam, no need for constant connection, ect.

Unfortunately, as the problem lies somewhere between Steam's servers and you, there is little that can be done short of complaining to Steam. Under normal circumstances, there should only be occasional periods of downtime when Steam is having actual maintenance or technical difficulties. You can know when these are coming by monitoring the Steam Downtime Announcements thread (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=784745&page=33) on the Steam forums. Only if you are experiencing these errors outside of these periods is there any possibility you can do something about them.

This has been explained by Trendy on a multitude of occasions, but there is no simple fix. It's a complex issue.

I'm really sorry you're having trouble and I really feel your pain (I've had games dropped at some especially inopportune times myself). Unfortunately due to the nature of how the game works with Steam it is not likely to change anytime soon.
