I have noticed this for awhile but just got around to looking into the problem. If I am hosting a game and I alt tab out and back in it removes everyone else from the game. It doesn't do it to them when I alt tab out just when I bring DD back up. It also will cause me to lose connection if I'm in another persons game and I alt tab out and back in. Looked in known issues thread and didn't see anything so I am hoping to get an answer.
That really shouldn't ever happen. They may get a bit of a quick spike of lag while you're the host but that's it.
Can you let me know what resolution you're running at with graphic settings and your video card?
You may wish to try turning "multi-threaded renderer" on/off (depending on what you currently using) in the configuration screen when you first launch the game to see if that handles the issue better.

I'm running full screen with a custom resolution of 1600 x 900 to match the screen resolution of the monitor I play on and my video card is a ATI Radeon HD 4350 according to device manager but I have been thinking about purchasing a new one. I play with multi-threaded renderer of usually and just tested it with it on and the problem persists. It also typically takes 15-25 seconds from when I click the game to un-minimize it and when sound and video is displayed again at which point I either lose connection to host or others lose connection to me if that is of any help.

That's a bit odd. I would check for video card driver updates and actually any updates for your computer to see if that helps out. It shouldn't take 15-25 seconds to restore the game window which would explain the disconnection. Your computer is probably "timing out" when the clients try to talk to it during those 15-25 seconds and give up. One thing you could do is try just doing window mode so you don't have to restore/minimize the entire game.

I updated my video card driver and it fixed the connection issue as well as made restoring the game much faster. However now textures are getting stretched horribly after a few seconds. When I first load up or restore the game from being minimized everything is fine, but within seconds random textures start stretching across the screen making it unplayable. I have tried toggling both vsync and multi-threaded renderer as well as trying to play on low and medium detail, none of these helped the problem. Is there anything else I can do or should I just go back to being unable to minimize without people losing connection to me because at least then it is playable. I have never really been able to play a game in windowed mode just because it gives me a headache for some reason.
Try this: http://phyxion.net/item/driver-sweeper.html
Completely eliminate all graphic drivers on your computer with this program. Then install the latest driver for your card and see if that helps. Note that when you using this program your screen resolution will most likely be at 640x480 once its done removing the installed driver so make sure you have the new driver in an easy to access location.
