View Full Version : Regarding alternate costumes being tied to mission maps.

Why can't it just be possible to buy alternate character skins themselves instead of being forced to have all characters at max level with the best gear in the world in order to unlock them?
I don't have any max level characters, so I'm screwed out of getting the new summoner skin forever unless I decide to spend hours upon hours of my time farming ramparts to get to 70 on every character, then hours upon hours farming glitterhelm to get passable gear for every character, then spending more time getting better gear for every character, then spending even MORE time getting the best gear for every character BEFORE I can finally get this one cosmetic item for a character that I haven't even began to play yet.
I'm going to attempt this with a friend of mine later, but since our characters are only around level 50, chances are we'll fail anyway.
Is there any strategy involved to this map, or is it just "have every character at max level with the best gear. And then pray."?

lay on medium.
Yuo must be new? Yes this game takes time and a lot of grinding. Most poeple buy the pack for the skin and just never play the map :)

I wouldn't have posted this if I didn't just try this map on medium with a level 50 something, only to have my defenses guarding a crystal destroyed in half a second and the crystal itself destroyed in less than five seconds.
And no, that's not me using sarcasm, that's exactly how long it took for me to lose. I know enough about the game to know proper positioning, but that apparently didn't help me here.

It's rewards like this that attract people to play new content. You don't get the same fun and satisfaction when you just buy the skins. If a new mission pack didn't have some cool shiny reward for beating it, how many people would still buy it?
Every new map is more difficult than the ones before it. You should go back and just play through the campaign once on insane. You can even start with a level 1 character on insane- you'll lose deeper well the first few times, but just picking up a few levels, you'll be able to advance. And if you still have a hard time leveling, then host a public game and get some help. Ask, and I'm certain you will recieve. You might even get someone to play through the map with you so you can get your costume. It doesn't matter HOW you beat the level.

You're right, of course: If I'm having trouble solo, I should try and get some help. The only reason I haven't is because of all the topics I've seen on these forums talking about how unless you're max level with the best gear you get kicked out of everything ever.

You can't be kicked out of your own room, and if you make a room with a name stating you need help, you tend to get people quickly enough.

I wouldn't mind helping you get the summoner skin. I don't kick anyone as long as they don't press g before i finish building or just afk the entire game.

I've seen on these forums talking about how unless you're max level with the best gear you get kicked out of everything ever. That's why you create the game, and you might even meet some people worth adding to your friends list, whom you can then play with privately, or accept some offers from forumers. This is one of those games that's a lot more fun with friends.

I think the main problem with this is the recommended level being 40. Honestly, I don't think it would be that crazy to say that the 'recommended level' system in general in this game is useless. I'm guessing they are basing the RL on easy.
As stated, getting some help will prolly see you through. Only other tip I can offer is learning how to use the fans to get around quickly.

Well, the point of challenge is to unlock a reward. For someone it may be delusional Pet Rock, for someone else - a costume. The whole point and most fun of DD is to progress on your own, get further in the waves each time. believe me, you have not seen a half of this game yet.
Now you at least have a goal to beat Talay on medium, which certainly requires good tactics but no stats. Once you suceed, you will suddenly realize that all your chars are level 74+ and can wear Myth gear, game goes on.

Plenty of games out there for everyone. Tho high end NM games does get you kiced sometimes, even if you got uber gear ... Some people just do not under stand how to host private games,

This is one those maps that if you're going solo, even at low levels, requires a stable of 4 builders.
You need auras, traps and some kind of boom boom tower. And minions won't hurt either.
So if you're trying to build with just a squire, and failing, well, that's why.
Plus, yeah. It's bloody hard to solo
