View Full Version : Stacking Electric Auras!

So today I got this ingenious idea.
What if I respec my monk to have 0 in aura radius, strip him of all weapons and armor, go into a Nightmare level, set out some tiny auras right next to each other, then re-gear him?
Yes, a bunch of electric auras that are STACKED!
But guess what, even though they might be stacked, they're not ACTUALLY stacked. 3 electric auras unfortunately do the exact same amount of damage as one electric aura.
Just thought I'd let you guys know. :kobold:

Traps can stack like this I think, but really even if you can do it its not effective for DU, trash mobs die easy to just 1 or 2 AOE type towers and the stuff that remains like ogres or djinn are much better dealt with by harpoons or similar.

Sad. Would have loved to see that neat trick working... 5 electric auras per lane? yes please.
Are you sure they don't stack? I could have swore they stacked on Ogres.

You can technically stack auras without doing the item drops. You just build them close together and then use a tower buff beam and they get huge. My monk has 2700 radius so that with a 3 star tbb covers a ridiculous amount of the map.

What about stacked gas drops to prevent sharken from charging when one resets?
EDIT: gas traps** wtf are gas drops? xD

It would only work if you managed to spread out the gas enough for them to not go off at the same time.

Re: Gas traps, I want to run some tests when I get home from work later, but I believe gas traps duration is affected by its upgrade level. Purely theorising here of course, but maybe this means you could have 2 gas traps built right next to each other when the huntress has all her gear removed, then re-equip gear and pump one gas trap to max upgrade, the other to maybe 1-3 chevrons tops? And if their duration is different, it should produce a 'staggered' time when reset applies, gaining the overlap lock someone mentioned above.

Upgrade levels do affect effect duration, but I personally would rather stack some non-physical damage on the problem spot where sharks can stop coughing and immediately spot a wall close enough to charge. Or ensnare if the shark is closing too much distance during gas trap reset.
Not as theoretically robust, but I'd just deal with perpetually open minimap and manual intervention.

You can actually do this without respecing. PRess the +/- keys to resize the auras. You can make them super tiny, and they'll scale up in size to compensate. Would be quite amusing to see a line of teeny lightning auras in a hall.

Also a waste of Defense Units! :)

This naked aura building then gearing up made me think of a couple things for Servants Quarters....
I shall go abuse that map now.

That's a map I've been banging my head against trying to find a solid solo survival build for. I haven't been able to figure out a Sharken-proof build for that map because of the limited defense units to guard against spiders, djinn, and the huge amount of mini-ogres.

It's not meant to be useful, it's meant to be funny. :P

You can erect (aura erection? lol? ...sorry...) many scaled electric auras in a row, and just put gigantic str drains/snares above them.
Just need a map with LONG streets and narrow passage ways - here i come UMF! :squire:

you could just use any pet with a very high -aura size. then switch the pet out before combat.
no need to respec a monk to 0 radius.
