i know it probably makes no difference what it says, but why does the wave counter start higher than 1 on some levels.
it cant be because it skips some, some level have so few mobs on wave 4/9 for example, that wave 1 would have to have 1 or 2 mobs...
maybe its for tougher enemies, though why they cant just make that level have tougher enemies i dont know.
if its for more waves for more people, whats wrong with changing it to 1/6?
it can be a bit confusing for people new to the game, can we get someone who KNOWS why its done like this and not just graphicly changed to say 1/5?
dont respond if you're just guessing or dont have a source.
yes i have, googled/read forums, nothing has a proper answer..

Mobs get stronger on later waves. It's basically a lazy way to make the mobs start out stronger when you load up a map.

I know the mods over on the WoW forums tell you NOT to put "Blizzard" in the title, or "fish" for responses. I know this isn't wow, I'm aware, but it still probably annoys them the same way.

This. It is also for mob count scaling, some maps would be too easy at wave 1. The reason they use this for scaling is because of how it is coded.
Do you have any idea how rude your post is?
Difficulty scaling/mob number management.

This^. It always amuses me when people put things like "Sticky This" or "Trendy Respond!" in the titles. Also when people tell other people not to post in their thread. If you want a response directly, then PM one of the devs. If they don't answer you, then your questions wasn't worthwhile or they missed it, etc.

I personally agree with this statement.
If you want an answer, PM the devs. Good luck mate :)

Agree.
I also found an example of my previous post: http://blue.mmo-champion.com/topic/217366-blizz-read-this-plz/

Its a balancing issue. You would waste time playing insane wave 1 with 10 monsters and 2 with 15monsters so they start you at 4 or 5 with 100ish.
Its all for your benefit

In addition to that, by the time you hit wave 4 or 5 everything would be build and upgraded and the rest of the waves would be a bore.

I've always wondered this.
If there's 10 waves and you start me off at wave 4, why not just show the wave counter at 6 waves total starting at wave 1, but with the same monster count? I'm probably missing something here, but it just doesn't make much sense to me.

They have the wave start later as it is an artifical inflation to the mob stats. Using an example (note numbers are made up):
Wave 1 - Monsters have a 0 modifier
Wave 2 - Monsters get a 5% stat modifier, +10% mob count
Wave 3 - 8% stat modifier, 20% mob count
......
Wave 7 - 50% stat modifier, 20% HP Bonus, 100% mob count
And so on, so they can apply a uniform value to the wave count instead of switching it for every map. So say this map starts at Wave 7, the mobs already are scaled to those values off the base mob value. Like a Wave 7 goblin will generally have the same stats across all the maps.
You can always go into survival and see what the mob line would of been at wave 1 for such and such map.

In the OP's defense, I don't understand why Trendy couldn't add a line or two of code to change the wave counter in the HUD (and nothing else) to visually display Wave 1 as the first wave on every map.

all i'm saying is that its not explained once, anywhere, I'm surprised they aren't flooded with bug reports about it.
of course its about monster scaling but it makes it confusing. id rather see it start at one, whether or not in the background it really starts at 4 or whatever, look untidy in my opinion.
