View Full Version : Having trouble using the Defenders Store?

Whenever i find an item that i would like to buy (non-hacked obviously), i leave a comment on the seller's "comment wall" on Defenders Store website about me being interested in purchasing certain items from their shop and kindly asking them to accept my steam friend invitation - so that i can join his shop and buy the items.
Over the past month or two, i have sent about 20 friend invitations like this - however only 1 person has accepted my invitation.
The rest most probably ignored me (for whatever reason?), since i could not send them any more friend requests.
Can anyone please explain to me how do you actually get to enter the shop of the sellers you find on Defenders Store website?
I have found several items i would gladly pay a lot for, however almost NO ONE is actually accepting my invitation so that i can join their shops?!
Am i doing something wrong here?
Can anyone please explain what i should do?

According to the site's FAQ:
Sadly there is not a simple fast easy and convenient way to do it. But you have 3 options.
Contact the seller on steam: Add the seller to your steam friendlist, and join his game.
Join the "Defenders Store" group on steam: If the player is in this group, you can chat with him and join his game. Join the group.
Join the shop from the in-game server browser: When a seller create an AFK Shop, you can see the game name on his profile and find it in the game browser. (Feature coming 15/12/2011)

I've seen a couple of people say they are pissed off with Defstore because they just get spammed friend invites and then some people just dont notice they have a friends invite.
The best way i've found to get into people shops is by going onto their steam profile and looking at what groups they are in. If you see a public group that has less then 100 people in it then that's your way in. From there you can join that group and load up DD all the way to the server browsers. Then you can go to your friends list and click on the "Groups" tab, expand the group the player is in and from there you can join them like you would someone on your friends list.
The group must have 100ish people or less otherwise steam will say "(too many members to show)" on your friends list. So thanks to steam the official Defenders Store group doesn't work all that well because its too big now.
If this doesn't work then there is another way that I try by using the shop browser. For whatever reason you cant always see everyones DD shop, because of routers, networks or steam I don't know but you can increase the chances of seeing the players store if you change your Steam download Region.
So for this first you need to find out what area/country the player is from. If they don't have that info available on their steam page then you could try checking the people on their friends list, but this starts to becomes a long shot as to your chances of finding their shop. Once you have this info you then just change your download region to a server closer to their location and just hope!
If you don't know how to change your download region then you just open steam up, go to the top right and click on "View" and then go down to "Settings". A sub-window will then open up called "Settings" with a few different tabs. Just click the "Downloads + Cloud" tab and you will see a drop down box with the server you are currently connected to under the heading "Download Region". Changing servers will restart steam.
So yeah, its long winded and its a bit of a pain in the back side, but doing these things have gotten me the majority of the stuff i have wanted.
If you already how this or try this then sorry for wasting your time! :P

Wish the "join the shop from the browser" feature was enabled. Would make the website actually worthwhile.
