View Full Version : Should I upgrade my staff base damage

My adept is my main, and I have a 74 of all other classes as well. I play co-op 50% of the time, so I have no issue with my adept's low atk damage. But when I play solo, I run into some issues. Since I do virtually no DPS, I can't make good use of a genie and upgrade my towers. What I tried doing is having two staves. One a DPS staff for early waves coupled with a genie, and my actual staff coupled to my app guard. But the issue is (especially in survival and mix mode) my towers lose a lot of effectiveness without my tower staff, and I get overrun really quick. Swapping to a DPS character has the same effect. So I was thinking maybe I should focus on upgrading the DPS on my tower staff. It will be either that, or doing survival/mix mode only when my friends are online. My tower stats:

600/1215/600/900 (all Gear and pet is maxed)

56 upgrades left on staff

1249/714 electric is current damage.

Hero stats are:
504/76/511/955

Your hero atk is too low to do any actual worthwhile damage. I'd say at least 200 is needed to do any decent damage in nm. Upgrade the tower stats on your staff in the meantime, and try to find a piece of gear that'll bump you to that 200 hero atk without nerfing your tower atk/rate too much. Find a new staff too, shouldn't be nearly as hard as finding the right piece of gear.

Would an extra 56 in tower attack make a big difference? That's the only reason I was considering putting it into the base attack. Right now the only mana I get is from chests and whatever I can jump out and grab before DEWs get to me. Even a little extra mana early on would make a big difference in survival.

Anyway, the staff is the latest thing I bought, and the tower stats on it are pretty good. 173 tower health, 190 rate, 163 dmg, and 161 range. It also gives me 150 health (every little bit is needed here) and 167 to my cast. Given my cast is pretty high, but I do like being able to near instant build/upgrade/repair. Though I'm not sure if there is a cap or not. Knowing caps would really make things easier when I decide on gear.

Like for movement speed. Is the gain capped at 100 on your hero, or 100 on each piece of equipment (total 600, 700 if you invested points)?

Your staff should do enough damage to farm decent mana with a genie. I have similar hero attack(<100) and I do a couple thousand on NM with a blast from my staff. Enough to get 200-300 from a genie when I fire. The rest went into tower stats on the staff.

That's likely what I'll end up doing. I don't think I would even notice three loss of 57 attack on my towers.

It's better to go with a DPS staff that you equip at the start when you use your genie, then switch to your tower staff once you've finished with the necessary building/upgrading.

You could try and justify going with a hybrid weapon by saying "it's only 57, I won't really miss it," but a little here and a little there add up to a big difference. Otherwise, why bother upgrading or seeking out new gear at all?

I meant that the staff would be the only item I invested into DPS. Gear still gets resists and tower stats only. And I have a DPS staff, but that staff has lower tower stats (and the genie also has lower tower stats than my app guard), so my towers are much weaker. I figure if I keep my tower staff out and give it some damage, that would help offset the loss in tower stats from switching to genie. That is, unless I find a better genie. But so few people actually sell decent ones. A new genie would mean I could keep my DPS staff and tower staff separate.
