So i have already put some points on tower stats when i realized i could make this a sword for my hero DPS knight.. I have only put max. 5 points in damage now.

So... Where's the question? You screwed up and your sword will have less damage than it could have had. Nothing to do about that, you can still use it for DPS.

Well, I personally feel "weapons" should do the job for which they are made, killing.
So I always put points in weapon damage "except for" my Aura Initiate and App Wall builder, as I won't keep them in game after the building.
So if you plan to keep your squire in-game I'll recommend upgrading it's weapon damage.

You can get that sword to a decent damage, but i noticed that you only have 1% damage reduction for blocking. I recommend you look for a sword that comes with higher block and at least similar starting damage, you never know when you need to block.

I put enough points into damage to farm mana with my squire, the rest go into tower building.

I have tended towards a focus on tower stats personally. I feel that a tower character's primary goal is to set up defenses and to keep them repaired/functioning. I suppose at some point, however, I probably should put at least some to damage so that I can remove spiders that get where they shouldn't be. :P If I were to go that route, what is the recommended base damage value I should aim for or does it depend on what kind of hero damage boost my tower character happens to have from gear?

If this is for Nightmare, rather than worry about the sword, i would sweat blood worrying about your resistances way way way more. Unless you dont keep your builder active(kinda silly) in which case he should have a stat weapon not a dmg weapon at all.

Not kinda silly if you play mostly solo. Dying on hc trying to repair something normally means the defence collapses (unless you're right at the end of the wave). Plus squires couldnt reliably dodge if their life depended on it (which it does...).

I'd rather survive with an app guard, than die for the 30% boost... (obviously dosent apply to team play).

On topic:
Personally I find tower chars with dps weps fairly useless in NM. The damage just isn't high enough, and the survivability is normally very low as well. Stick to the tower stats

My builder squire has 132k hp with 90% generic and 70 rest resists with a 23k dmg sword, which is enough to rage circ slice spiders up to wave 20 misty surv...

I only play solo. So im not sure what youre saying there Crzy. I can survive with an appguard AND on my builder...

Resistances matter hugely if youre active, more so than sword dmg, is my point.
30% bonus dmg matters in nightmare with low stats.
In nightmare 100% block is massively important as well.

Maybe im a bit off topic here. Moving back, Dmg on a sword is very NB (as is block, and lvling resists > using those lvls for stats) if ur using that builder actively during combat. Otherwise full stats.

Now im using only this squire. I'm leveling up monk, huntress and countess (countess will be builder, squire will be dps). But atm, i use only squire wits stats 716 1039 598 633 for everything.

Quite easy.
1. Stand by a bouncer or in front of a harpoon.
2. Hold block.
3. DEW dies.
