So multiple times while playing online, I have often heard kids say, "Don't upgrade the auras it makes them go down faster."

I think to myself, how is improving something making it die faster?

Personally, I think it's just false info, but I have been surprised before.

So does upgrading auras make them die faster or do I chalk this up to "he heard it from his friend, who heard it from his friend..ect"?

I think it does because the rate of fire or in this case effect increase meaning it will make the life span go down faster ?

^agreed but if you get them to 3 stars it is faster to repair

But I always thought that even if the rate is increased, the dmg killed them off quicker, hence less wear on the aura or atleast a balance.

...If this is true.. I might need to re-evaluate how I spend my time playing this game. O.o

I do believe the Auras lose 1hp per second a mob is in the aura regardless of the stats.

The rate of attack increases higher then the life/damage can withstand. So a 3 starred aura will go down faster. That is why if I am forced to upgrade an aura I always replace it on the next wave.

Well that makes sense. I guess that I never thought about it that way.

Generally you only upgrade Auras when they are about ½ health or less during the middle of a wave. Usually people will sell/rebuild them after the first couple upgrades.

Personally I will keep em out until I upgrade them to level 3 out of sheer laziness.

You want to see an aura go down in about 5 seconds? 3 Star it and attach a Huntress Guardian and watch the stupidity ensue lol..

Sorry, I do not believe any of these opinions at all.

An aura loses hit points the more monsters that are inside the aura. In no way does an aura lose hit points by attacking monsters.

For a normal aura, it loses 1 hp every 3 seconds when there are no monsters present within.

If you combine an ensnare aura with a strength drain aura and put it in a high traffic area, in contrast to the combination of an ensnare and electric aura in the same high traffic area, the Ensnare/Strength Drain will go down first due to the nature of the Strength Drain aura's lower hit points.
(This combination is used to illustrate that the electric aura will not go down first because an electric aura does not lose hp when it attacks a monster. But loses hp because of the amount of monsters within the area. So Strength drain will go down first)

What I am basically saying is that when you upgrade an aura, the more hitpoints it will have, thus increasing the overall lifespan allowing the aura to handle more monsters that are present within the area.

That is why I always prioritize upgrading auras first as they will last much longer.

See in my experince in doing survival, they do die faster upgraded. (electrical auras) For example,an non-upgraded aura will end the round with 1/4 health left but a 3-star aura will end the round with 1/5 or even 1/6 in high traffic areas, It could be due to the higer attack rate or its just the larget mobs, the way i see it,upgrade them. As long as you repair,it shouldnt be a problem.

This has been proven wrong by Dredd, Smurf and myself doing a Pure Strategy mode on insane. Same amount of foot traffic on each aura.

We were forced to upgrade our auras during the waves. Level 1 aura withstood 1500 enemies, 3 starred aura couldn't even handle 1200.

This has been the case for me as well. There was a post not long ago that explained, in fair detail, the rate of increase in aura attack/health/etc. per upgrade. Anytime I upgrade my aura, they go down faster.

Good find, I forgot about that thread. Yeah it is 100% useless to upgrade your aura's. Now if the increase to the aura's HP was significant enough to offset the rate of attack yes it would be worth it.

I've had the same experience, no reason to upgrade Aura's.

I've had the same issues with upgraded traps too, they seem to go down much faster, anyone confirm or deny on the trap observation?

The Aura upgrade one is a murky one...because I was always of the opinion that an aura lost Health anytime it 'attacked' something.... and suspected that a faster Tower Attack Rate would bring an aura down faster. However, while my experiments didn't answer any definitive questions imo it offered a little more insight.

A) Aura's lose health without any monsters in them what so ever... about 1 hp per second.

B) Aura's don't seem to lose health any faster with a single monster in it then it does with no monsters in it.

C) Aura's lose health at an excellerated rate with 2 or more monsters in it.

D) Strength Drain, and Ensare (and I think Enrage) have no listed rate of attack as Electric and healing auras do. So it'd be almost impossible to confirm that its health depletion is based on attacks. So an argument can be made that it doesn't work that way.... but you could easily counter that argument by saying it doesn't make sense to have a stat that wouldn't effect 3 out of 5 of your towers.

This would/could be true for two reasons really.

1) Depending on your tower health, upgrades may or may not add a lot of health/uses to your trap.

2) Upgrading will increase the rate of traps resetting and being ready for use again. So traps will be ready to fire off quicker, and monsters typically walk faster and faster each round, so combined with the traps being ready quicker it probably makes them deplete faster.
