I licked the cracked skin on my lips. The sharp wind peeled the corners of the loosened bits. Some of them fell off.

It’s been weeks since we found the first shard. Days since we last found water. At this rate, that first shard might be our last.

And yet, my companions and I trudged forward. The sounds of scraping metal and flapping cloth underscored the whistling wind. My head was a whirlwind of sand. My tongue groaned of thirst.

FLASH.

A bright light flicked ahead.

FLASH. FLASH.

The light flashed in slow rhythm on the edge of a faraway sand dune. As it drew closer to us, I could make out the source between the flashes.

It was human in shape and size, but its skin – if that’s what you could call it – was metal. Thick metallic prongs for hair swooped back in short spikes. One of its arms formed a cannon. Even this far away, you could sense it was built for combat.

Through the rippling waves of heat, I could see it getting closer and closer. I tightened my grip on my staff.

Suddenly, it disappeared.

I turned to look at the group. Unfazed, the lot of them. Perhaps I was delirious. The desert plays tricks on travelers.

Further ahead, we found a post drove into the sand. Nailed to the top was a board covered in colorful fliers and photos. The group gathered around the board and read:

Console Patches/Shards Part 2 Submitted for QA

Both consoles patches and the Quest for the Lost Eternia Shards Part 2 have been submitted to Sony and Microsoft for quality assurance! Woohoo!

“But what about a release date?” you ask. We won’t have one until we hear back from Microsoft and Sony. The quality assurance process is so varied and hinges on so many different things. To give you a general outline of when we might be able to tell you would be nice, but the truth is we can’t give you an honest approximate time frame.

As soon as we hear back from the console manufacturers, we’ll be sure to let you know!

Choose the Next Free DLC Costume Pack!

Have an idea for a character costume? We’re letting YOU choose the next four skins for our St. Patrick’s Day PC DLC! (And not only that, we’re letting you choose which four heroes will get the costumes, too!)

Here’s how it’s going to work:

From now until Thursday at 6 p.m. EST, you can vote in our Facebook poll (http://www.facebook.com/questions/352054741493538/?qa_ref=sa) and our forum poll (http://forums.trendyent.com/showthread.php?47676-Costume-Contest-Voting-and-Submissions) for which hero you want to see get a new skin. We’ll tally up the votes, and the top four heroes chosen by you will be revealed.

Also starting now, be sure to send in your ideas for character costumes. You can post them in the Costume Contest Voting and Submissions thread (http://forums.trendyent.com/showthread.php?47676-Costume-Contest-Voting-and-Submissions), tweet them to us on Twitter, tell us on Facebook, post them on Reddit or send them to our contest email (contest@trendyent.com). Anyway you can get them to us is fine. (Snail mail probably isn’t the best route here.) There’s no limit on ideas, but please do not send the same ideas to different channels. Posting that idea once in one place is best.

We’ll aggregate those ideas, and starting Friday, we’ll host a daily vote for each character. (One character a day, starting with the hero who received the least amount of votes.) This is why it’s important to start sending in ideas. Once the vote goes live, we won’t be able to add in additional ideas. Get them in early!

Friday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will be our voting days for the characters.

Skins are limited to non-copyrighted, non-trademarked entries. (Public domain is fair game, of course.)

Report a Player Update

Starting sometime tonight, we’re streamlining the Report a Player thread. Clicking the thread will now take you to a form to fill out, so you’ll know exactly what we need in order to catch hackers, modders and USD sellers on Ranked. Each report will be sent to us via email, and as we handle each report, we’ll send you a verification email. This process cuts out a lengthy section of time in dealing with reports, so the time between reporting and reaction should be shortened dramatically.

Beta Team Update: 2/22/12

Wow, it’s been quite a week on the Beta Team! While you’ve only seen the Presidents Day map, the team has been busy working with new applications and compiling community suggestions.

We’ve gone through hundreds of applications and chosen a great mix of players from all skill levels. Sadly, this means that we are completely full for both our PC and our Mac beta teams. Thanks to everyone who applied!

We’ve also been very busy developing a dialogue with those who’ve responded to our suggestion topic of the week. When we are [or Trendy is] ready to address the issue in game, we [they] can pull from this great source of information.

Here is a short list of the most commonly suggested items regarding the Monk:

1. Survivability - The Monk is rather frail compared to everyone else. The most common suggestions were to increase his HP and to increase the effectiveness of Hero Boost (particularly the healing side).

2. Second Best at All - A lot of people wanted to see the Monk step into a jack-of-all-trades role. At the moment, he dabbles in a lot of things but isn’t quite strong enough to attract players. There were a lot of suggestions about making him able to switch between melee and ranged without having to commit to one or the other.

3. Improving his Auras in NM - Increasing the softcap on auras and improving scaling were the main focus of many suggestions.

Thanks again to each person who responded! The next topic is, “How would you change Huntress to make traps more appealing?” PM suggestions to "Official Beta Test Group" using the words TRAP SUGGESTIONS in the title.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No clue what any of those fliers were talking about or why they were in the middle of the desert. But I didn’t care. My body appreciated the short respite from famine and fatigue.

We had to keep going. And yet, once we found Moraggo, things weren’t going to be easier. Rumor has it the town’s riddled with powerful Djinn – creatures that can warp defenses and buff nearby enemies. And I’m sure they aren’t the only obstacles between us and the second shard.

I readjusted my robes and caught up with the group. Moraggo wasn’t too far away now. Neither was death.

Great Digest.

Still anticipating the release of the Eternia Shards part 2 DLC for us Consoles. I sure hope the QA process goes well.

Can't wait for the story to progress even further, let alone farming for some new uber gear!

Will the Djinn be in Moraggo only or will they migrate to the other areas/levels in the game?

I had a feeling we were gonna get some sort of enemy, or challenge, that involved our defenses warping when I saw the ps3 challenge involving warping towers. Can't wait to see the Djinn and find out how the tower warping abilities work :D Thanks for the updates, and if that is the boss being described it sounds nuts!

Ya but right now I got it stuck in my head that she has a tower you can place that is a hero operated turret. Just have an image of me mowing down waves of enemies with it. That would be cool.

This -is- a hint towards Series, though.

"It was human in shape and size, but its skin – if that’s what you could call it – was metal. Thick metallic prongs for hair swooped back in short spikes. One of its arms formed a cannon. Even this far away, you could sense it was built for combat."

It's from the 'lore' part of the digest.

Keymonk
02-23-2012, 04:44 AM
Yes... while it's not a hint towards anything in particular in terms of abilities, but it sure as heck is mentioned in the same story bits as the desert map/Shard2, and probably is a hint towards Series coming out along with Shard2 (possibly!)

So, yes. It's a hint, whether it fits your narrow criteria or not.

Besides, even if you know what the hint says, it's still a hint.

The Djiin is a mythical creature / being . Iv'e heard stories about it in my childhood .. The Djinn first sprang from stories told by Indian, Persian, and Arabian storytellers.

It does not say anywhere that console gets it first. Trendy has stated before PC would get it first. It takes longer to get content out to consoles. I can't see any reason why PC would get it after.

simultaneous release.

Pc will have to wait till after the console one gets the ok, cause if the console one doesn't pass and needs changed then the pc one will have to have the same changes. so until QA gives the OK, PC is SOL

Not really. If the console patch doesn't pass, yes they do have to fix it and resubmit. But if they release it on PC and it has bugs, it can be fixed the same or the next day, as it doesn't have to "pass" through validation. So, theoretically, PC can get it first since if it has bugs, that may not pass MS standard, it can be fixed in a jiffy as opposed to the console version where they have to take it back and resubmit.

Also, as metal gear above noted, Trendy already confirmed that PC will get the DLC first anyway. ;)

@Bagel

Ya because that how it worked with the first Shards DLC, right?

No...Trendy already stated in another thread that PC would come out this month, and it would come out before the consoles.

He was just messing with you guys for starting to complain if you would've had to wait to release your high and mighty pc dlc for our console dlc. He meant releasing at the same time as consoles, I recommend rereading his posts.

I'm definitely excited for the next shard. I've spent enough time now in MistyMire that I'm looking forward to something new and fresh. The AMP and other DLC's were fun, but I'm ready to slay a new boss. Thanks for the great work and constant updates!

Side note: Where can we submit SS to? I can't seem to find the thread that talked about sending in beautiful SS. Thanks.

Did some research with other games for PS3 in particular, submission normally takes up to 2 weeks. Many have repeated this on their forums for particular games. The average is normally one to two weeks for Sony to check and distribute a patch.

Lets hope it isn't any longer than that!

Trendy(and Beta Team, ofc), good job on:

Here is a short list of the most commonly suggested items regarding the Monk:

Would actually love to see Monk as the "Trump Card of NM", haha!

Also Defense heal rate is quite quite low considering on NM the defenses have about 50k+ HP, and at around 900 Defense Boost points his heal rate is just ~200 per tick, which is quite low, so maybe that should also be given a consideration!

i really enjoyed this digest :D... always fun to get alittle story in during my lunch break at work. Some of the suggestions i saw you posted are really nice to hear, i've been waiting for something to be dun to the monk my favorite class for awhile now... would love to be able to use him reliably as a dps char in nm misty 20+.... i do love my countess but honestly having to be forced to use her simple because all my other chars die in 1 hit.. is kind of frustrating.

I would also love to see more pvp added to the game... a few maps where gear didn't matter? not to sure... but the president day map is pretty fun But it's hard finding people with decent enf gear to fight with... i guess thats because i have 600+ hours into the game farming items while most people that join are still newish, so it's hard to find good groups in this map.

Well keep up the good work trendy :D ... The game has been alot of fun for me

A problem I've been having is identifing items worth looting. After much playing I have pretty good fully upgraded gear and hardly ever see the green indicators. If I'm looking for a replacement sword for better DPS, good tower gear for an alternate char or even just looking for items to put in my shop, I don't have anything to point that out.

If there was a way to set up, say, Orange indicators to show items with a certain vendor value or number of ups or even just to pick an item type it would be very useful.

On the topic of how to make traps more useful that's tough.
1. They don't draw aggro. This is a negaitve because they are weaker for protecting against spiders. A bumper will draw the spiders to it and kill them. A trap will only kill the spiders that cross it and if the trap doesn't kill it at once the spider will move on.
2. Not useful as a thinner. If you place it foward of your static defenses then it is difficult to fight your way to it and repair it. If you place it close to your static defenses, then you may as well have spent more du on static defenses. (most noticable in NM Misty)
3. DU cost. To suppliment the front of hard defenses an ensnare aura is more useful and costs the same 3 DU. To protect the backs of hard defenses and extra DU gets a Bumper, which is good for the reasons in point 1.

Solutions?
1. Increase range. If they can cover the back of cluster of defenses for up to the range of a spider's web range then they do not need to draw aggro.
2. Increase # of trap detonations.
3. Drop 1 DU of the cost.

Perhaps one of those was useful.
