I don't know if this is in the right section, I apologize if not i couldn't find anywhere else to put it
But i'm currently doing NM HC Alchemical Laboratory Survival, and I'm getting a TON of ogres. Like, a Mixed Mode amount. Did the new patch do this, or what?
Update: Wave 8 just brough 15 ogres. I didn't think it'd release most of them on me at a time, I'm getting more ogres at a time than on mixed mode.

thats how they make nightmare mode more difficult. they just dump a ton of ogres on you. the fourth or 5th wave in magus quarters survival has like, 15.

I think they added more ogres. I was doing ramparts HCNM and on wave 10 there were 15 ogres that all came 3-4 at a time continuously.
IMO the ogres are not the bad part. On wave 14 they dumped 200 spiders, 200 wyverns and 6 ogres on the map all at the same time at the end of the wave. The spiders are the worst part. Every single tower gets webbed just as the wyverns black out the sky.

Yeah my friend had 48 ogres on 14
Consider yourself playing beta while they work out the balances and whatnots for classes and item drops and spawning rates. That is what I do.

1.) That's not true (Look at Minecraft)
2.) You didn't pay for NM beta release, you paid for the complete Lost Shards DLC, and got early access as a plus for preordering.

Ramps wave 16 (IIRC) is the worst I've seen yet. 50 Ogres...

minecraft you could buy the alpha version, or play the beta version for free, or choose to donate. quite different.
nightmare mode was not billed as a beta release, it was billed as an incentive to purchase the full eternia shards DLC with the premise it was end game content that granted better items. which it is. it was only after all the complaints about the mobs that were brought with it that it was said it is not a finalized version. which is fine.
however, rather than making a bunch of arbitrary hero buffs, they should focus more on reducing the absurdity of nightmare mode in general. its the same with mixed mode. i dont play it because the only thing different about mix mode over normal mode is that mix mode is pretty much nothing but wizards and ninjas, both of which are mobs that need some serious adjustments. much like nightmare mode. which trades the absurd number of wizards and ninjas with absurd numbers of spiders and ogres.

The only legitimate way of playing Minecraft I was ever aware of was paying for it. I could be wrong, but either way it doesn't matter how NM was billed, the fact is we got it early access as an extra for preordering the Lost Shards DLC. It would (almost) be the same thing as saying that you paid for the Assault Pack, when that was a freebie for preordering as well.
I do agree with you that Nightmare needs to be relaxed a little. I'm tired of hearing "It's not called Fluffy Cloud Mode!". I understand it should be the hardest setting in the game. That doesn't mean that it needs an entirely new system. Going from 100^ (I think; it's been so long) to 254^? Harumph! I feel TE needs to just go back and readjust NM from the ground up; bring it more in line as the logical, foreseeable next step from Insane. None of this farming first wave of NM ES nonsense.
I dunno, maybe everything will be nice and smooth when Part 4 comes out. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

50 :ogre: = Third-party facepalm. (http://chocolatesyrupywaffles.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Third-party-facepalm.jpg)
But that might be the case with 4 players in-game?!

I would say 50 ogres on wave 16 is from having one person.

Ogres are terrible up to wave 12. Mainly due to the fact they dump them all at you but a few right off the start, last couple trickle in at end of wave. Past wave 12 the number of ogres still climbs but they become more spaced out and A LOT easier to manage. Just need to get past the 20+ ogres slamming your walls all at once on the way to 12.
I would take ogres any day over the mess at the end of waves beyond wave 12. Alch labs for instance, you get a lovely spider/kobolt/healer rush at the end. I don't imagine I could come up with a worse scenario than those 3 mobs pouring at you. I would take ogres any day over that mess.

i paid for a discount on a 4 part DLC pack, and i got the bonus of unlocking a new game mode early, that was in no way shape or form, nor is it currently advertised in any way shape or form that it is a beta version of a new game mode.
it says " This bundle also includes early access to Nightmare Mode for all original and upcoming missions, a new difficulty setting yielding incredible rewards and incorporating enemies from the DLC packs"
not a single mention that it is a beta release, or that it should be viewed as such. what is said in interviews or forums or whatever is all fine and dandy, but unless the actual advertisement says that it is a beta version, for all intents and purposes, it is not. it is the status quo for the game, currently, and for all intents and purposes, by the community and the developers it should be recognized as such
stop sugar coating it and justifying it and start calling it what it is: it is a broken mode that needs some serious tweaks, and it needs tweaks to the manner in which it presents monsters, because no matter how much scaling and boosting you do to heroes, the core issues is that the monsters in it are too problematic. because of their HP and damage scaling, and the fact that they drop 900 spiders at one time completely crippling your defenses.
but all that aside, the developers clearly know that certain aspects of the game are too easy, which is why they invented spiders in the first place, and why, to make nightmare survival "challenging," they dump tons of them and tons of ogres on players, and then try to play a balancing act by buffing one archetype's towers by 230% for nightmare mode only, while another class archetype's has an only 30% bonus in nightmare mode, effectively killing that archetypes ability to perform in the mode.
the mode is broken, the mode is not balanced by any means, and no matter how many HP and resistance buffs my apprentice/adept receives, it does not change the fact that their towers, even with 30% higher tower stats than my squire currently has, are almost incapable of stopping anything beyond goblins and archers past wave 6. the hit point scaling of mobs far exceeds the damage scaling of MM towers, lightning towers, and fireball towers. deadly striker towers do some serious damage, but they are not nearly as effective as harpoon turrets, which cost 2 less defense units and hit multiple mobs at once 3 times as fast. and when the game is purely a numbers game...

Not to mention that if your towers are able to hold off defenses, there are other glitches like ogres walking right through spike blockades.
