Since both my thread in general, and the Official "Discuss this patch here" thread are both locked, I'm going to repost my comments here. Presumably, this isn't a quash-negative-commentary campaign (after all, Trendy has wisely allowed it to continue before) I'm going to repost and request new commentary here:

I can't use the official thread, so I'm going to at least talk about it in the PC Patch Notes subforum.

----------As Finally requested, repost begins here-----------

I'm not going to talk about Valentine's Day, except in an oblique reference, but that deserves its own thread.

1) This is not a pvp game. Just calling it out. Designing an event around pvp is a very dubious decision at best. I'll let that go, though.

2) Designing a pvp event in which the most important factor is the location of an unkillable super NPC who can one-shot any hero, any time, anywhere, on any difficulty is NOT a pvp event. It is a survive-the-juggernaut-while-trying-to-kill each other event.

3) The duration of this is absolutely ridiculous. PvP - which clearly is not a Trendy specialty - is not about long endurance matches, except in TBS, occasionally RTS (LoL being an exception, though those matches are usually decided in brief spans of seconds and have a lot of wasted time), and Chess. PvP is short, violent, and then you start the match over. I can't imagine trying to dodge Nightmare Kobolds and Ogres for the required time - all the while noting that the slightest error causes you to lose points when half the arena becomes lethal because of the flying demon.

4) President's Day, last I checked - and Trendy is American - is supposed to be a day in recognition of certain old, long-dead leadership figures of this nation. Arguably, it might be about more current Presidents. It is certainly not about who I got to my horror with my huntress: Michelle Obama. Nor is it about this ridiculously-colored, oafish looking little quasi-mutant "Democratic Donkey." It certainly has never been about candidates for office who have not even been so much as anointed by their own party, if other threads are to be believed.

With all due respect, in view of this "event" and the Valentines "Event" I would like to suggest that Trendy switch from a policy of quantity to one of quality. This event wasn't paid for - and wasn't required. Have your art assets do something more useful to the Eternia series. Have your design team code some new, interesting mechanics.

Have your beta testers be given a chance to tell you that being one-shotted on any difficulty with any character BY A MONSTER when you're trying to pvp is NOT fun pvp.

Quantity is only greater than Quality when it is enjoyable. A lot of us were looking forward to a boss battle zone after certain recent comments.

The only thing worse than Valentine's I can think of, sadly, is this. I hope I won't say "the only thing worse than President's Day" on the next one.

Quality please. Not Quantity.

It appears the 7.18 patch thread is unlocked again, so I apologize if the above appears a transgression, but I'd like to request that this thread either be left open or transplanted into that thread, since I took the time to repost it after being asked to move it the first time.

Trendy used to be brilliant with regards to commuicating with their customer base, but since they took their xmas holiday it seems they have come to a conclusion that people are going to QQ aboout patches and have Hitmon handle the face of the company, which I think he does a good job of.

But theres a balance between people QQ about changes they don't like and general QQ about how a game people once much loved is going down a direction they don't want to see it go, and unfortunately it seems Trendy have started being ignorant to the fact the QQ about patches in the whole at the moment are widely being complained about, not just a change or two that people don't like.

This will definitely be left open. We think the 7.18 discussion thread may have been accidentally locked by a moderator, not sure who, definitely no one here at Trendy studio. So we've unlocked it, cheers.

Anyhow your points are certainly understandable and taken to heart; rest assured, the near-term and long-term upcoming contents -- Eternia Shards and other things -- are focused specifically on the bread-and-better Tower Defense RPG gameplay (along with new mechanics of course) :)

All the best,
Jeremy

Personally, i would really like to see more Tower Defense DLCs which would stay true to the spirit of Dungeon Defenders. So far, this is Very lacking....

Agreed on all points with the original post. I'm disappointed.

For what it's worth, I actually think the DLC has potential.

1) Do not instakill with the Demon Lord. Make him scale - heck, give him his usual stats; that will still make him a significant figure at any given difficulty, but not THE dominant match factor.

2) Make him killable the same way he is in the campaign. When he dies, you get sixty seconds without him on the field.

Those two factors alone would make it a lot more fun, I think....

....along with slashing all the kill requirements by 50%, and probably lowering the sell value on pets and weapons by the same amount.

When they said this event has "been in the works for a long time"...
They meant 3 mos in the Art Department...
and 5 minutes in the ingenuity, game-play and design departments.
Was this tested? Did any of the tester's have any fun? Lose a point when you die. 0/0 score for both sides. Victor is the one who leaves the game FIRST in my opinion.

I agree with these points. I disagree with the harsh criticism from the other posters. As is, the DLC is basically unplayable, but it was free so whatever no skin off my back. It would have been pretty epic if you guys had made the skins like, lincoln for the hunter, washington for squire, jefferson as the app and i dunno whoever for the monk.

Who expected to get a DLC for presidents day? I sure as hell didn't. Also its free for at least now, so what more do you want? I dont expect every mechanic to be immersive and fun, but for a reward, sometimes you have to do things you do not want.

I think this is a very good DLC, remind me of the old pillow fight :P

"Fun" does not have to mean a map that you can farm over and over for some crappy gears. Just gather some friends and enjoy it :D You dont even have to make that map in NM, watching people running around dodging some arrows stepping on the firewall is amusing enough for me =]

Think about this, if they release a rewarding map, people complaint it ruins their xxx hours of farming, if they release a fun map, people complaint the map is crap and not worth playing?

I'm pretty sure most people don't think "This is fun!" after being slaughtered 2 seconds after respawning, thanks to a rogue Kobold, or the Demon Lord seemingly appearing above you/spawning a trail of flame right underneath your own bruised and charred posterior.

well guys you have to realize that a software house is not only interested in the hardcore base group of his product but also in aquiring new customers etc

that the policy of all big companies, if you take a popular game, lets go with wow for example there are TONS and TONS of event youd call "crap" who has nothing to do with pve or pvp or progression or obtaining gear or anything competitive

while im not particularly interested in such events i know and i accept that some ppl are not hardcore gamers and enjoy a lot a variety in a game
also to note this was just a free patch or dlc call it like you prefer so its not really like you paid anything

First of all, we all know this games main feature isn't PvP but all games have PvP now, get used to it. Second of all, my opinion, you got this for free. Quit complaining. Now by the time people have to pay for it they know what type of content it is and can choose to pay at their own risk. I know things are supposed to be fun and I have my complaints here and there but you guys take this way to seriously for free content. Considering most games make you pay for every little thing of DLC. And this is just not directed at the poster but everyone.
