View Full Version : 7.17c Harpoon towers still shooting into walls and missing anything smaller than Orcs

Just ran ES on NM and saw the harpoons shooting awway at walls and floors rather than aiming for targets that they had clear LoS to Plus they now cannot hit anything smaller than an orc.

I watched the towers fire away at goblins and spiders that were merrilly tearing down defenses, that were directly in front of the harpoon towers that were never hit... Ever.

My squire had to continually go over to clear out problem areas like that which kept cropping up.

The good news is that the Harpoons do move a bit faster and seemed to perform better versus wyverns now (when they aren't ignoring the wyverns right in front of them by shooting futilely into the floor or walls next to them instead).

Havent had time to test the new patch as of yet, so a little question, is this problem just on level ground or also when it fires at angles?

dunno about THIS patch but the problem has always been they were aiming too high

i dont even understand what is hard to fix about it, just lower the hit box like the other turrets...

TE last few patches actually broke the harpoon towers more than they fixed them!

TE please bugfix the 7.17c patch as far as the harpoon towers go...

They actually seem more accurate when the harpoon turret is elevated slightly to the target.

When they are level to the target then they just fire endlessly over the target's head and never correct the degree or two downward needed to hit the mob.

Reminds me of DICE, every patch has to break something aswell.

Indeed this was caused due to a vertical offset on the Harpoon projectile position to get it to not over-collide when aimed downward -- but this offset has caused it to miss smaller enemies that are at the same level as the harpoon. Will fix first thing tomorrow morning.

Thanks,
Jer

related to this, dark elf mages currently are able to spawn skeletons inside walls, where they get stuck, with small portions of their bodies exposed from inside the wall. this is cause towers to target the skeletons inside the walls and attack them forever without being able to kill them, thus rendering them useless. this happens pretty much every wave on mistymire forest, near the upper portion of the dual east path, behind the shroomite on the log.

Will harpoon towers ever work properly?!

No. Never. Obviously they're not interested in fixing it, they hate squires, squire turrets, and you personally. It's a very direct and personal insult to you, and you should be absolutely livid with rage at it. How can such incompetents even get out of bed, nevermind code a highly successful game with dozens of innovations and features?

....or you could not be a troll.

Tomorrow is unacceptable. Fix the numbers. It's obvious you did no testing what so ever on this or else you would have noticed how the towers worked completely wrong.

I would certainly join the test team and do it for all of you, but I'm pretty much doing exactly that right now.

Your arrogance is amazing. Tomorrow is unacceptable? Yes, the man's posting at 2am his time, letting you know they're going to fix it, but no, he should not go home and get some sleep. He should not at least see the side of his wife's sleeping head before dawn, he should not be able to tuck his child in and check on them, he shouldn't be able to rest enough so that he can think straight and deal with things tomorrow. He's not allowed ANY forgiveness at ALL for a quick fix that didn't go properly, all so you can have a better GAME experience for five or ten hours, of which you will probably play at most 1-2.

Yes, your GAME experience is more important than his real life at 2am. Clearly.

Edit: And I love the "I'd get involved and fix it myself, except..." thrown in there for good measure.

...how do you not sicken yourself?

You don't seem to understand the issue here. They did not test this patch. They changed a few things, put the update into a cannon and blasted us all with a face full of shrapnel.

Even a 5 minute playthrough would have shown how screwed up harpoons were.

I fully understand the issue. I also have a reasonable sense of perspective, and don't expect people to work the graveyard hours for a silly game, no matter how much I enjoy it.

No one would be expected to work the graveyard shift if they actually tested their work before spewing it all over everyone.

What did they even do during testing time? Do you know what they did during testing time? Give me a good reason why something this bad would be missed.

Better yet, let me make a checklist for testing:

Step 1. Start your game up with your newly created content and or patches.
Step 2. Pick a Decent level to test the patch in.
Step 3. Fully test the patched content on easy, hard, and nightmare.
Step 4. Observe what happens when the tower or item interacts with the environment and enemies.
Step 5. Did the equipment react correctly? If yes, go on to step 6. If no, go back to fix it and release the patch another day.
Step 6. Upload your patch.
Step 7. You now have time to chase eachother around the office with nerf guns. The patch was a success.

Send this message to the test team.

And how do you expect people to effectively do a job that requires a great deal of thinking when they are too exhausted to think? You make it sound like they caused the servers to explode, deleted all of your characters, and took Steam down with it. It's just a tiny aspect of one character class in a video game. Not only that, but harpoon tracking has been broken for quite some time. The "we think we fixed it but failed" patch hardly warrants your response.

They had time to think during the day and take a little while to watch that the towers do.

I'm sitting here watching my harpoon tower. What is it doing? Besides shooting randomly it seems to lack the ability to hit certain things it used to.

Wasting your time guys. Lord Carver simply has an agenda to bash TE as much as he/she can. It's rather sad. Yes they made a mistake, but you act like they personally made you worse off in real life.

I would love to know what you do for a living Carver.

The debate ends now. Further flaming will be deleted and infractions handed out.

A constant complaint is that things are not properly tested before being implemented. I know players were all excited about reading a harpoon fix coming and so the forum was filled with excitement, but please stop rushing out patches.

I noticed DunDef Digest 2/15 mentioned a beta team. The PC team is apparently full already, but they need to be given direction to actually beta test new updates. The whole suggestion thing about improving the game in other ways is good, but their focus should be on a properly working product.

TE needs to do actual TESTING before implementing fixes like these.
Better for a patch to be delayed by 1 day, than to have this mini fiasco occur on a regular basis.

Though I've made a thread about this before in Suggestions, it still happens so I feel the need to bring up that Harpoons had a similar problem -before- the vertical change where they would sail over spiders constantly, only hitting them every so often as opposed to all of the time.

Spider hitboxes are too small, is part of the problem. This issue also affects monk range, which cannot hit them without aiming down, which they cannot reliably do.
