View Full Version : [MAP] Cross TD ~Progress~

Hello,
I'm making some sort of maze/mountain td wich in short is just a map where the enemy mobs will spawn from different locations and then follow a path to get to the crystal.

- There is only one path.
- Mobs will also have resistances

So this way players can make strategies how to complete the TD, will they build on the walls, to keep their own towers safe? Or will they build in the enemy paths and face them in one big battle!, But look out for air units as they just fly over the walls!
Having mobs with resistances will force players to group and make different mixes of defensive towers.

Made this map in progress so what you now see is only like 10% of completion, still need to make mob waves, decoration around the entire map, etc etc..:mage:

I will try to aim for 30 waves, with each fifth wave a bonus:skeleton:/boss:demon: wave.

But enought wall-of-text as most of the picture will explain.
(Any additional suggestions are welcome!)

- Btw, players will not be able to build on the bridge/cross, as this is only made for champions to walk to the other side and would be too easy placing towers 'cough' CannOP balls 'cough' there and smash every mob harder then the hulk would ever be able to!

Finished the stairs + texturing them. ( the textures don't run smoothly in each other but i'm no professional! )
Also made walls so people cant see a horizon.
What i'm gonne do this evening:

- Texture the new put walls
- Add a sky
- Add some volumes, preventing players to build or walk on certain spots.

Optional:
- * Try to figure out how the Kismet and Matinee work. (as i made a new map, there is no template so ill probably make from scrath if i'm able to!, It will be one long night of reading tutorials and messing around!)

Workprogress:
* Texturing 100% complete
* CSG (Floor, walls, ceiling) 100 % complete
* Static Meshes aka Environment 67 % complete
* Voluming 82 % complete
* Kismet 0 % complete

ToDo:
- Adding extra touches by placing static meshes. ( barrels, crates.. )
- Adding light

Soon:
- Voluming
|- Crystal, chests, playerstarts, UI, billboards,..
|- Intro Cinematic
|- Kismet
|-----> ( Searching for someone who is willing to help me make it from scratch + learn, Credits will be given! :orc:)

Wow, This looks really good :squire: , Reminds me of my exact idea I had planned :orc: .....But I've never touched UDK and the DDDK won't download properly atm, BUT ANYWAY GoodLuck and If I get mine started anytime soon; Let the best Map Maker Win :]. *cough* Team up *cough*

And i don't mind teaming up! ;D
As long as the people i would work with are friendly and dedicated. ;-)

Unfortunately i will be unable to work on it today, i have a boxing match so i better focus on that for today.

Im not a fan, it looks too easy. too simple. too straight. too single pathway/chokepoint/crystal.

there doesnt seem to be any way up onto the walls other than maybe climbing towers/crystal.

even if your mana chests only contain 40 mana each, youve got 10 chests laid down there. thats 400 mana minimum. seems like too much for the first round, when you only have one path.

all combat takes place on the same Z coordinate. (ignoring wyverns, they dont really count as straight line followers) add a few ramps here and there, up and down.

alternate routes, at least one surely?

but this game doesnt play too well like that. one choke point = super easy mode in dundef.

What if you can't make it a choke? For example what if you are not allowed to build where the mobs walk; only on the walls?

Hey Resetting,
You got a point! I can't deny that, it could indeed be to easy, unless i give the mobs alot of health so mobs will destroy some towers and they will need to rebuild etc.
But now that ive seen nightryder's solution that will probably work best!
Thats why all comments are welcome, i will look in to it as soon as i can, but unfortunately the guy in my boxing match headbutted me and i lost my tooth, so i will need to fix that first, lolz.
Still thanks for all comments though, and nightryder i look at your pm right away! ;-)

Update:
- Mobs spawnlocations added.
- Mobs Pathing added.
- Mana chests added.
- Light added.
- Into & Outro scene added.
- Crystal and forge implemented and working.

ToDo:
- Fix minor bugs.
- Add more waves.
- Add some more environment details.
- After first beta testing, implement game modes. (Easy-Medium-Hard)
